La California Restaurant, Grand Case, St. Martin Restaurant of the Month

This Grand Case restaurant offers its clientele not only a fabulous meal but an exquisite view of the Grand Case Bay and the nearby island of Anguilla as well. Serving French and Italian cuisine, La California is open for lunch and dinner.

The lunchtime crowd favors the restaurant's gourmet pizzas and salads. The eclectic selection of pizzas includes the Capressa (tomato, cheese, capers, anchovies, olives), Antillaise (tomato, cheese, pineapple, pepperoni, olives), San Francisco (tomato, cheese, calamari, parsley, garlic, olives), and Marina (tomato, smoked salmon, cream, asparagus, olives) as well as pizzas with more traditional toppings. The restaurant is also well known for its salads like the exotic lobster salad (greens, lobster, jumbo shrimp, sea scallops, and exotic fruits), the Norwegian salad (greens, smoked salmon, shrimps, tomato, egg, and lemon), and Alyzee salad (greens, chicken, artichoke, chorizo, green pepper, tomato, egg).

Diners can choose to enjoy their meal on the waterfront terrace or in the cozy dining room with its interesting artwork and warm decor. La California offers an intriguing choice of appetizers ranging from foie gras with mango chutney to tuna tartar in coconut and lime to the French favorite, escargots in garlic butter.

The dinner menu features fresh local seafood and fish such as mahi mahi in mango and ginger sauce, stewed conch, and grilled jumbo shrimp kebob. The grilled beef tenderloin with choice of Bernaise, blue cheese, garlic butter, pepper, or mustard sauce is popular as are the various entrees featuring duck. In addition to the regular menu, La California prepares a wonderful selection of nightly specials such as frog legs in garlic butter, shrimp and scallops in saffron butter, pork tenderloin in caramel sauce, lamb chops in garlic cream sauce, and rack of lamb topped with goat cheese.

For dessert, try the restaurant's wonderful crepes. La California also has a nice wine list, with wine available by the glass or bottle. Dress is semi-casual to dressy and reservations are recommended.
