Villa #12 Renovation

Recently villa #12 had a wonderful renovation. The wall between the kitchen and the living room was torn down and a kitchen window/bar area was put up. This allows anyone in the kitchen to converse with everyone in the living area. A beautiful flat screen television was added. Request your reservation here early as villa #12 is closest to the beach and has always been one of the most popular villas. With the additions, it will be even more popular.

St. Maarten Summerfest -- St. Maarten

Summer can be a slow time on the island but the St. Maarten Summerfest does its part to create a stir. The third annual Summerfest is scheduled for July 21-23, 2006 and July 28-30, 2006. This year's festival features a variety of musical acts ranging from hip-hop to gospel.

The summer music festival kicks off on July 21 with a combined Latin and Kompa night. Soca and Comedy night are in the spotlight on place on July 22. Both concerts will be held in the large open area at Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facilities.

The Marigot waterfront is the setting for Wine & Jazz night on July 23. Reggae night is slated for July 28, and Hip-Hop and R&B acts take the stage on July 29. Both events will be at the A. C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facilities.

Gospel night is set for July 30. This year's gospel artists will be chosen in conjunction with Dr. Bobby Jones, an internationally known gospel entertainer. Jones will promote the gospel evening via his television and radio shows and website.

The lineup is still being confirmed at press time, but organizers expect this year's acts to appeal to both the younger set and a more mature audience.

Shoppers will want to take advantage of the 10 days of shopping discounts being offered in conjunction with St. Maarten Summerfest. Stores will feature discounts ranging from 10% to 70%, and a Summerfest Shopping Spree magazine will spotlighting "64 pages of deals" will be distributed throughout the island.

Restaurant of the Month - Skipjack's Seafood Grill, Bar, & Fish Market, Simpson Bay

The readers of the Daily Herald voted Skipjack's Seafood Grill, Bar, & Fish Market "Best New Restaurant 2005." Skipjack's fish market keeps the adjoining restaurant well supplied with the freshest fish and seafood. The waterfront restaurant has a nautical theme befitting its location on Simpson Bay Lagoon. Diners can enjoy a wonderful meal at waterfront tables overlooking the lagoon and the megayachts that drop anchor there.

Begin your meal with one of the restaurant's top-notch appetizers like calamari--served fried or marinated-- artichoke and crab dip appetizer, tuna carpaccio with lime and basil, beer-battered tempura shrimp, or lobster and crab salad. Or try the clam chowder or crab and corn chowder, Popular entrees include lobster pot pie, sesame-crusted yellowfin tuna served with a ponzu dipping sauce, Caribbean lobster, and Maine lobster, a rarity on the island. Other seafood choices include shrimp scampi, Creole mahi mahi, and blackened grouper. Skipjack's also offers a daily grilled "Catch of the Day" as well as a blackened "Fish of the Day."

Landlubbers won't be disappointed either. The ribeye, strip loin, beef tenderloin kebabs, and mango chicken kebabs draw rave reviews.
